locked out- without password

I tried to find an appropriate thread- sorry.

I just had my PC with Vista Home premium in the shop for cleaning etc.. it came back with a password... entry.
I tried to change it to NO password- now I am locked out. The password does not work- what else can I use? I am the Administrator- of a useless PC, LOL?
I have never, ever used a password on this PC before- what do I do- short of throwing the PC in the barranc?
I tried the reset password feature with the flash stick- it tells me my USB sticks are not working, why is that?
Can anybody help me, please?
I should add, I am sitting in front of a green welcome screen unable to do anything.

Hello Marialuisa and welcome to the forums

Here at Vista forums, offering password resetting advice is a grey area because potentially you could be a minor trying to bypass an administrator password on the computer.

I need you to answer a few questions before I can offer you any useful assistance:

What cleaning did the computer go in for? Dust etc. or cleaning the files on the hard drive?
Why did they set a password on the computer when they had it?

Tom

thanks for answering, Tom
I am well past being a minor, LOL- I take this as a compliment at my age (retired :))))
They cleaned the dust- we live in the country and the dust this summer has been bad.

They updated some programs, virus etc..
I have no idea where the password came from...
when I tried to reset it I clicked the administrator thingy.
Now nothing seems to work.
I have a notebook as a backup, thank God for that..

It is the policy of the Forum to give password help, limited by the information in our tutorials. This policy is to protect everyone involved. Hope this helps
User Account Password - Change from WinRE - Windows 7 Forums[2]=User Accounts
This will also work for Vista.

I suggest that you call the shop, they had no right to put a password. Find out the reason and what the password is.

Screw the tutorials....... Call the shop and get them to tell you it.. OR have them get the password off.

Yes, the shop have no right to put a password on your computer because you didn't ask them to. It would be easier if you phone them and find out, but if that fails, then try Rich's method. Sorry about the minor comment - although it is more of a compliment than an insult - you can never be too careful here :)

thanks richc46,
I can understand the policy-
the tutorial sounds rather complicated, I will give it a try tomorrow-not sure if I can manage this. Will probably have to take the PC back to the shop- let them crack this nut
AND:
I also do NOT want another password-
IF it is possible to override it then it makes no sense to be so secretive in the first place, isn't it?
Thanks-

If you used the method to replace the password with another, you can remove it once you are logged in. To be honest, its not that easy.

no offense Tom982-

richc46- the problem is I cannot log on- I cannot get past the beautiful blue-green welcome to Vista Home premium screen- I tried to delete the password- now neither the password nor anything else works- I am stuck.
I think I will just go to bed- and take the PC back tomorrow-

good morning guys,
a quick update: I am in-
I remembered my Virus program asking me to pick a more secure password- I did- this was it-. It showed me the original password my hubby had picked when he set up the PC- I have used the PC since- never had to use a password in 2 years- until I took the PC to the shop a few days ago and it came back with a new password installed-. This makes little sense to me, however I am in- with a password. Will make a reset disk just in case.
I guess I will have to grin and bear it- and sign in with a password from now on- and join all the paranoids, LOL

Thanks again, I appreciate the quick replies.
Greetings from Spain.

You don't need to have a password, goto run and type control userpasswords2

In there, you can set it so you don't have to have a login password
