my acer was destroyed by my little sister after she got mad at me for asking an stupid question in front of her friends"did u put your smelly bed sheets in the wash room?". Why did i provoke satan...just like family to know what u love then kill it....:cry:did not cry...physically but my soul did...
will after she throw it across the world, i gathered up the parts and put them in an bag
the next day my friend gave me his old HP laptop for we can play mmo together again, but it did not have an hard drive so i put my hopefully still working hard drive in it
"its alive" it worked fine:party:,after i downloaded drive software online.

so the window activation key thing comes up saying its invalid then it goes on to say that i should type the key form the sticker on the key board.
my sister tore the sticker off years ago....so i bring up system through control panel. an their is an window activation key already there....i click it and it say not valid.
so i goto Microsoft.com/genuine to check validation and it says
Validation Incomplete

The validation service is unable to determine whether this copy of Windows Vista is genuine.

what does that mean...it never did this on my acer....or i never noticed it i guess

help if you can plz,

My Computer

Hello Drew, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Unfortunately, with a OEM copy of Vista, that came preinstalled on your laptop, the product key number is permanently tied to the original computer (your broken laptop) that it was first installed on and can only be activated on it. You will not be able to use that product key number on any other computer. :(

You might contact HP to see if you may be able to get a replacement installation DVD with it's product key for that HP laptop's model and serial number. This way you may be able to do a factory restore with it to have it's original OS installed. Depending on how much they want to charge you for this, it may or may not be cheaper to just buy a full retail copy of Vista to use instead.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn
