Solved 2738 vbscript error

I get this error when trying to uninstall weatherbug and Blackberry desktop manager. I have been able to uninstall other programs just fine.

I have tried to unregister and reregister the vbscript.dll with no change in the outcome (registration of vbscript was successful)

I have no idea what to do next and my searches have been unsuccessful. Any ideas??

I suspect that part of the problem may be that these programs are running when you're trying to uninstall them (maybe not fully running, but running certain parts in the background) and that may be blocking the uninstallation.

Download, install, and run Autoruns: Autoruns for Windows (which is far superior to msconfig and a great tool to have). Go to the Everything Tab and check every entry for anything to do with Weatherbug and/or Blackberry Desktop Manager (they may be different names, so look carefully) and when you find them, uncheck the box to prevent them from starting at startup and then reboot. They will probably uninstall normally now, but I recommend you proceed to the next paragraph to make sure it is done thoroughly (and is more likely to succeed).

Try downloading, installing, and using Revo Revo Uninstaller Freeware - free software download and software review - uninstall and clean-up utility from SnapFiles to uninstall these two programs. It often works when Vista unininstall fails or doesn't do a proper job. You may see the same errors during the initial installation part of Revo, but it should catch everything that was missed in the later parts.

(NOTE: I use Revo to uninstall anything I ever uninstall on my system (programs - it doesn't handle updates) because I almost always find that the normal uninstall program leaves behind entries in the registry and files/folders on the system and Revo cleans all that up if you use the advanced option which I recommend - but be careful about what you choose to delete and make sure that it really is part of the program you are uninstalling and not something else as it is possible to remove more than you want and even something important or critical unless you pay attention - if in doubt, leave it alone (it will probably do no harm being there and better to be safe than sorry)).

I hope this helps. If not, post back and we'll take another look at the problem you're having and see if we can ascertain the cause if it wasn't what I suggested in the first paragraph and Revo didn't work either.

Good luck!

Checked Autoruns and saw nothing running that I could see with these programs. I always use Revo for my uninstalls but I had never seen this error before and Revo usually used the built in uninstaller first. I didn't know that Revo would be able to do a complete uninstall on it own like that. Good to know!! I used Revo to force the uninstalls with great success.

Everything else seems to be fine so I assume that I can just ignore the 2738 error or is this something I need to look into further?

THANKS!
