Windows doesn't seem to recognize autorun.inf files

This is a little thing that's annoying me that I haven't found the answer to with google. I've noticed that when I insert games or software in my dvd drive windows asks me what I want to do, and installing isn't an option on their. I have "install or run program" selected by "software and games" in my autoplay settings in control panel. And for disks that I selected once "open folder to view files using windows explorer" the folder open automaticly without even asking me. It's like windows is ignoring the autorun.inf files on these disks.

That's a nice article but it doesn't help me with my autorun problem. While I keep searching for answers all I can find is people on forums who had autoplay problems. So someone should really tell goggle that the two are different. Is it disabled or something how do I fix this?

Have you tried Changing your Autoplay Settings?

I set mine to ask me every Time

Go to Start>Default Programs (Also found in Control Panel)

Then Click on change Auto Play Settings

and Make sure you have the "Use AutoPlay for all media and Devices" checked

Hope This Helps,
Josh

You could try searching the tutorials here and in Windows Seven forums. There's quite an extensive list of explorer and system setting with .reg files how to set the registry to get the setting or step by step with pictures. I'm not going to rewrite what's been done. If you look, it's there.

If you don't want to look I can't help you.

After looking through your through the forums a bit I still haven't fond anything. Anyone want to at least point me in the right direction. I tried adding NoDriveTypeAutoRun to my registry because it didn't exist, and i set it to 91. It did absolutely nothing. The only thing I found under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer was a (Default), BindDirectlyToPropertySetStorage, and NoDrives. If any of those mean something. I feel like the missing NoDriveTypeAutoRun might be the problem but it didn't do anything when I added it. Did I add it wrong or something?
