Solved How do I minimize my screen

Hi Guys

I'm new here and not the greatest technical person, so I'm not sure which forum section I should be posting this question.
I have a "HP windows vista home premium laptop that's 2 years old"
Last night I chose to play one of HPs games that came with this computer ( wheel of fortune ) and after completing the game I clicked on "close game" which it did not do.
I clicked close a few more times and the screen maximized to full screen and still would not close.
I then tapped close game rapidly and the game then disappeared leaving my regular screen so huge that the icons normally on the left side completely covered the screen.
I did something else and I can't remember what it was but now all my icons are missing as well ( I know it was something innocent which doesn't make any sense ).
In fact it is very difficult even writing this post because the page is bigger than my computer screen and I have to scroll back and forth to get all this text written.
Can anyone help me with this problem, as Hewlett Packard wants $50.00 to give me the solution because my PC is out of warranty and it is their game that started this.
I checked out Google and found many other people got the same problem after playing a game.

Larry

PS- I use Norton Security (renewed 2 months ago) plus I have Paratologic Registry Cleaner, so I don't think viruses are an issue.

Stop with the reg cleaners. They just cause problems and are not needed

First of all Stop using the Registry Cleaner and Uninstall it it is not Recommended it can do serious Damadge to your Computer and Render it inoperable,

Also Could you right click your Desktop and click Personlize and then click Display Settings,

If the Slider is set on max then Move it down and click Apply And Ok

This will then ask to Keep the settings click Yes ,

After that Move the Slider to the top and then click apply then Keep the Settings,

Is your Problem Fixed?

Also if the slider isn't at the top then Just slide it to the top and click apply then OK Then Keep the Settings,

Is your Problem Fixed?

Many Thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh, I was really surprised to see you answered my post so quickly.

As I said my technical skills are a bit lacking and I'm not sure if I have the right "Desktop"
I got it in my files and when I right click on it, it does not show me the "personalize" option.

Thanks Larry

When I mean Desktop I mean your Wallpaper Background - When you Log on to your Computer and there is a Wallpaper in the Background etc this is Known as your Desktop if you Right Click it a context menu should appear

Hope This Helps,
Josh

What probably happened is the game didn't reset you screen resolution.

You should check the screen resolution is set right by going into Control Panel --> Personalization and click display settings... It should be atleast 1280 x 800

Hi Josh and Patond

You guys know your stuff and I got my screen to the right size with your help, although I do have one more problem which is related to the problem you just helped me with ( never knew I could just right click on my wallpaper and it would take me to the personalization control )

My other problem is that all my short cut icons disappeared from the left side of my screen, can you tell me how to get them displayed again or do I need to create all the shortcuts again manually.

I don't think I will ever play that game again.

Eek....

Are they all gone? if so right click on the desktop again.... Then goto view and ensure "Show desktop Icons" is selected.

Else, you may have made a bit to big.. Make sure your mouse stops on all four edges of the screen.

If it is, make the screen resolution abit smaller in the width size.....

Hi Patond

You hit it right on the head, everything is back to normal thanks to you and Josh, both of you saved me money as HP wanted $50.00 USD before even looking at my problem plus a hard upsell for extra warranties and products and he was getting really annoying.

Joining forums such as this is really great in not only learning new things, but also saving money where people such as you two give your time and expertise to assist others.

Thank you both..............Larry :)

Hi Josh

If you are talking about getting rid of my registry cleaner then consider it done, I deleted it right after I read that advise, and I even filled out their survey asking me why I was deleting them ( I was polite lol ).
