Solved Saving clips individually in Windows Movie Maker

I want to know how to save clips INDIVIDUALLY in Windows movie maker .
I capture video from handycam tape (Digital8) with Windows Movie Maker.
I capture the entire tape automatically and save it to one AVI file.
When wizard finishes capturing it also create clips.
Collection includes many clips named dd.mm.yyyy hh:mm.
This date and time information is crucial for me.
I want to keep thisinformation so that I'll be able to search for recorded clips by date.
I can drag and drop each clip to timeline or storyboard and save it separatelly.
But I don't want to do this manually. There are way to many of them.
I want all those clips to be separatelly saved with
date and time information included in name of file.
Can that be done?

Hi,

Once the clips are imported into WM maker go to the file menu & save/ export them, one & all. You should be able to save them in the file name format you see them in or rename them to what you want.

If you want to add many files at the same time select them drag & drop them in in one go. Please ensure the files are positioned in the right order in your production video.

Hi,

I'm looking for fastest way to preserve date&time stamp along with video information. I can save every clip manually and name it by the date and time when it was taken.
But this is too time consumpting. On one tape I have cca. 100 clips. I need automatic way to do this. Any hint how to preserve time&date stamp is welcome.

Sounds great but it doesn't work for me. I have SONY DCR-TRV 355E camcorder and above mentioned software works for Sony HDR-HC1, Sony HVR-A1 and Sony HDR-FX1 (so it's written in readme file). But I tried it anyway. No success. I also don't know how to install drivers for camcorder. On page http://hdvforever.com/hdv/hdrhc1/freecapture/default.htm mentioned in instructions I can not find any information. Do I need extra drivers if I'm allready able to capture videos from this camcorder to computer? This HDVSplit.0.77StaticBeta would be perfect for me if only it worked. The only solution for my problem is now to save project in Windows Movie Maker where wizard create clips after finishes capturing. In name of every clip I have date stamp. But I'm afraid that in 20 years nobody will know what Windows movie maker is and how to open this *.MSWMM file and date stamp information will be lost.

Hi,

Are you able to connect this device via the firewire port (iLink) on your computer instead of the USB? If so, it should be automatically detected by the system & therefore found by the HDVSplit software.

I always connect camcorder via firewire. HDVSplit software is not recognised. Do I need driver for it? Via firewire I can capture videos with Windows movie maker or Ulead. This two are always offered when I turn on camcorder.

Hi,

Try connecting the camera & turning it on. Then open HDVSplit without opening any other camera software. This will allow the device to be available for the HDVSplit software to find it.

I tried and it says Camcorder is not recognized or connected. I also called SONY support and they told me that I need Sony vegas studio pro or Adobe premiere 4.0 to do what I want. I have Adobe premiere 1.5 and don't know if this feature is not available or I don't know how to use it. I select Scene detect while I'm capturing, but I still don't know how to automatically save those scenes. I get stuck on the same point as with Windows Movie maker.

OK,

Vagas is very good but quite expensive.

"Try" the AVS video Editor/ Recorder.

http://www.avs4you.com/video.aspx

You get quite a range of software in the package for editing various sound & video etc. if you decide to purchase a licence. See picture.

I checked mentioned AVS4YOU software and in read instructions for capturing
http://www.avs4you.com/downloads/OnlineHelp/AVSVideoCaptureHelp.pdf
I didn't find any information that this software can also split video file in clips by time stamp.
I already have two software that can capture and split file in clips. I only need automatic way to save those clips. It look like that I'll have to satisfied with *.MSWMM files. And hope that Windows will live forever.

Eureka! This is it! exactly what I need! Thanks a lot! I can't believe but it's true that this program can write month on movie in Slovene language. Great! Now I can make movie from many clips and can any time latter put on date stamp. This can be done for whole movie or just few seconds on each new clip. Also format of date stamp can be changed. All that I have to take care is that movie is in AVI format. Even if I make some fancy transitions it adds date stamp after transition is finished. So no information is hidden by transition. And also important thing is that this program is for free. I’m really satisfied with solution. Thanks a lot for you efforts.
