Hi zodiac3000,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

The first question is which program is the .auz file associated with. Here are some options: AUZ Extension Information - What is the AUZ Extension?. I suspect it is the one at the top from your explanation - do you have Ableton Live File installed? If not, it is some other program - but I don't know what you have installed so it's hard to assist you with that. You can't just return it to what it was - there's no "undo" option to file associations. You need to make a specific choice.

If so, or if you otherwise know the name of the program to which this file type is associated, then check out the following article: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/69758-default-programs.html. Make sure you select the program's executable file as that's the only choice that will get this to work.

Once done, auz. files should open with the program they were designed to open with and you should be back in business.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

yes, i do have ableton live file installed. this function is to help authorize the software. by accident, i chose notepad to open it with because the previous program to open with was "unknown" to windows and did not recognize the file type. this is akward because before my driver was replaced a few months ago i installed the program fine. now, i dont remember the name of the program to help me open this file and there is no "choose defualt option". all i know is its an auz file and i have no idea what program can open this file.

The program to open it is Ableton Live File. Locate the folder somewhere in Program Files and seek the executable file in that folder (it will be a file ending in .exe and will probably have a pretty icon next to it to identify it as the primary program file hopefully there won't be many .exe files or the one you need will be obvious). That's what you will use in the above procedure to fix the association.

Good luck!

no, that doesnt work. the concept is you have to authorize ableton before you can run it. ive tried uninstalling/re-installing the program and it keeps coming back in notepad to open. even the previous program to open with said windows did not recognize the file type and was unknown (the reason i chose notepad by accident).

Please contact Ableton Live Technical Support to get the name and locatiion of the file that should be used by Vista to associate an auz file with the program and get it to open using the program instead of something else (like Notepad). Once you know the proper file, the above procedure will work using that file. I don't know what file it might be if it isn't an executable file - it could be any file located anywhere. But they will know: Ableton - Technical Support. You need to login to get to the telephone number for technical support.

Good luck!
