Hi chinu and welcome to vista forums

First, right-click on the Sidebar icon in the system tray, and then choose Exit.
You should receive a message asking if you really want to close, which you do.
Next you’ll want to check Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) to make sure that there are no sidebar.exe processes running that shouldn’t be. If there is, just right-click and use End Process.

Open up windows explorer and then paste the following into the location bar:
%localappdata%\microsoft\Windows Sidebar
This will open up the Sidebar gadgets folder, where you should see a file named Settings.ini, you’ll want to rename this file to something else, or backup the file elsewhere and delete the original in that folder. This file contains your current sidebar configuration.
Now once you re-launch Sidebar from the Start Menu, you’ll notice that a new Settings.ini is created and your sidebar should be back to normal (unless you have a virus).

You could system restore to before the problem had arisen, type system restore into the start menu and hit enter, sometimes it takes a while to load so be patient, but when you first noticed it happening, choose the date before as it's probably caused by a failed install of a gadget.
