Go to search
type services
go to services and make sure that smart card services is set to on and manual.
Hopefully this will work.
Make sure plug and play is on. Smart card depends on Plug and Play.

Hello!

I am interested to see the report from SFC. Just a quick thing:

I have installed 4 times this windows in this server

Is this a server? Did you, by any chance create this installation disk? As drawn attention to in the "Microsoft Windows Vista Deployment Error Diagnostic Guide":

Important If you attempt to service an offline Windows image and Package Manager returns an error, the Windows image may be corrupt. The Windows image you are attempting to service should be discarded. This is necessary because if the Windows image is corrupt, subsequent attempts to service the image may not return an error, and you may ship a Windows image that is corrupt. Servicing operations for corrupt images may result in the failure to apply subsequent critical patches. As a best practice, when you receive an error using Package Manager, discard the current Windows image and start again with the last known valid Windows image. When servicing your offline Windows image, ensure that all offline servicing actions are successful. If there are any failures, discard the potentially corrupt Windows image.

If you don't understand this, or it doesn't apply, don't panic! The rest will! Have you really tried the install four times and got the same result each time? That suggests a corrupt image (DVD) to me. If not, I would strongly recommend re-installing it now, possibly, based on your next logs, before you personalise the machine too much.

You actually seem to be missing a few services. Corrupt files can be replaced. Missing services can be added through clever manipulation of the registry, but I am wondering whether we will ever truly fix this machine. We shall see!

Hello!

In relation to the last two posts, you need to upload your whole CBS.log, and not just a parsing of it. Please navigate to and copy C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log to your Desktop. Right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload that here.

Thanks!

Niemiro would like to see the report, too. So try the SFC again and see if it completes. If it does and there are errors that cannot be fixed, try couple of more times. Then if it still cannot be fixed, send us the log.

Hello!

Not a very nice log. It can be fixed, there aren't too many errors, but they are tricky. Can you please think over the rest of our posts before embarking on this route, and also re-run SFC one more time, and upload a new CBS.log, as I need to check on the status of four particular files.

Thanks!

Richard

Hello!

Well, those errors don't seem to have gone away quite as easily as I had hoped. The choice is now yours. The fix would be long, difficult, time consuming, and not a guaranteed success. With a machine this new, I think that a re-install should be attempted. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks!

Richard

Id like to add one more alternative to the mix
There is the manual fix suggestd by Niemiro
Then, I think, a repair install, as previously suggested
Finally, a reinstall

As Niemiro says, the choice is yours, we only present ideas.

What do you want to do? I thought that you had the Vista DVD.
That is all that is needed for a reinstall or a repair install.

Hello!

No :) The most likely cause is that there was a small blip when copying certain files across. These things happen. A re-try will probably fix it. There are plenty of options left yet :)
