Power User
Hello again. My computer keeps restarting on any windows- xp, vista, 7 X32 and X64 bit versions.

I have bought new thermal paste but it still is running hot! no change.

It hangs around 40~ alone in bios. i have reseated and it its tight that the motherboard kinda bends.

PLEASE HELP.

EDIT: Now in bios runs at ~45 degrees. Fan rpm is over 2000 and case is 31 degrees. OTHER CPU's have been running at 28 degrees

Hi nostaw5,

Perhaps you should check out the processor with Intel's processor diagnostic utility at: Processors — What is the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool?.

Are you absolutely certain this processor is compatibile with the rest of your system (motherboard, BIOS, chipsets, Vista 64-bit,...)? I'm unable to verify this one way or the other.

Good luck!

Yeah it has the latest bios which supports it and mobo but it keeps saying unknown cpu.

I have a spare mobo in so i cant do it right now. BUT that one also is shutting down and restarting with a different cpu. it might be video card.

cuz it never used to shut down before.

is this the Celron zand p5l ?

I'd redo your paste... more to look for proper connection than the actual paste.

Have you watchd the temps on load? I run my q6600 AND i7 at 70ish C 24/7...... but 100% load.

Just read your other thread.

Pop out the cpu and look for bent pins.

OK here might be simple

Mobo P5LD2
CPU: intel celeron 336 775 socket
Temps: 45-restart temp

Prob: blue screens and restarts if in windows. Has RESTARTED IN BIOS CUZ OF HEAT.

What i have done: Applied NEW thermal paste, Reseated cooler many times, CPU HAS NO PINS!!!!!

Mobo: ONTAI OT-LM4 478 socket
CPU Intel Pentium 4 3.0ghz HT 478
temps:UNKNOWN

Prob. Installed new video card. SAME AS THE PLD5 Mobo. Pc has no blue screen but restarts under load. NEVER DONE BEFORE.

It might be the card.

Im thinking its my thermal paste. I applied another SMALLer ammount and in bios it stays at 50-55. It crept slowly up and as i speak it has not gone over 55 or restarted. But if i go into windows i am afraid it will crash and burn again.

also i will try that.

if your pc is crashing at temps of 50-60c, then you need to set it to a higher cut-off, seems awfully low for any CPU to keep under, my Q6600 thats overclocked but no voltage change sits idle at 47-48c=
CPU temp.jpg

optimal operating temperature for CPU's are around the 40-70c mark, but most motherboards have a emergency shutdown temp of 70c, ive set mine to 75c as my CPU has never hit 70c even under heavy load.

if the temps are getting you worried, i'd consider getting an aftermarket performance fan and heatsink, like a Zalman or Coolermaster, after all, mine seems to running cool since ive changed to my Zalman :)

The brand is fujik, type: silicon, grease like. and it is working! idle temp in bios stays around 38-39 degrees for the four hours i tested it. it says: HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY, LOW BLEED STABLE!!!

Unfortunatly i tried to install windows 7 again but comes up with errors SO, (deep breath) i cant see if it actually works.

Those are good.

Aux could be anything.

Can you boot to a livecd? Maybe try ubuntu or even memtest86+

For Idle that is bad.

You can actually repaste the heatsinks on a gpu aswell.

I had my laptop gpu crap out in 5mins when it was overheating.

Found this on how to remove the heatsink

Using needle nose pliers, on underside of board, found the 2 plastic heat sink push in's and gently squeezed tabs on head such that could push plastic hold down back through hole to release heat sink. Once one pin pushed back up through board, gently pushed other pin up through board.
With heat sink removed, found that some thermal conductive grease had been used to help heat transfer from top of video chip to heat sink but certainly not enough and all dried up.
Gently removed old thermal conductive paste from top of video chip and heat sink using Kleenex.
Put new thermal paste on top of video chip (Radio Shack or off the web) and positioned heat sink back on top of chip and slowly pushed plastic hold downs through the board until their heads popped open to hold the heat sink in place.
It was then I noticed that the heat sink was not being held down on the video chip very well. Most processor chips on motherboards have a fan cooled heat sink and this heat sink is latched down hard on the chip top. Not so with the NVIDIA.
Taking small wire, I push the heat sink pin down into the board exposing some of the pin to which I wrapped wire around and around, making a sort of standoff or applying additional pressure to the heat sink, chip surface junction. Once one standoff wrapped, did the other one.

it crashed while i was doing updates too. MUST be the gpu. I hate heatsinks. But i cant afford ANYTHING ELSE.
