Another issue from a common problem, "The user profile service service failed the"

Hello, I've searched the forum and read several threads on this topic "The user profile service service failed the logon". I went in and found the HYKEY stuff, found the SID stuff, but, I have like 6 SID's and only two of them have LONG numbers after them, which NONE have ".bak" or ".bk". Both numbers are the same, the top number has no caractor's at the end, the bottom number say's "CLASSES". Upon reviewing these SID's, there is NO INFORMATION on the RIGHT SIDE of the screen, is this bad? The account that is locked IS NOT the admin account.

My question is, the "fix" for this listed in another thread is the same fix? Even though i'm not seeing the same stuff on the screen? Or do I have another issue all together? I'm not a wiz bag with computer's, but not totally ignorant, I just don't want to be changing HYKEY's and what not, not knowing if I'm doing more damage then good!

Thanks in advance!
Curt

Curt,
I am not sure if it is the same fix or not. Im not sure of what you looked at. The only thing that I know is that the suggestions in this fine tutorial has fixed the problem for many members
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/130095-user-profile-service-failed-logon-user-profile-cannot-loaded.html?filter[11]=User%20Accounts

If you follow this tutorial, do you still have the same problem? Does the explanation make it any clearer for you?

Clear as MUD! :D.... No, I understand everything in that thread, my only concern is, when I'm in these section(s) of the HYKEY, I see nothing in the registry side (ride side screen) and I have no SID numbers with anything described in said post. I guess I'll jump off the diving board and test the water by trying this fix.... Just don't want to screw it up more then it is! lol

Thanks for your help/thoughts. :)

I am sure of this, if there is any question about a fix involving the registry, dont do it. The registry is the brains of the computer. Any change that you make takes place immediately, there is no time for a do over.
Give us the exact registry entries that you see. I can have a member with registry experience help.

Have an errand to run real quick. I'll go back in and write it all down and repost the info here.

Re: Another issue from a common problem, "The user profile service service failed the

Here is what it say's, under the Registry Editor.

(LEFT SIDE SCREEN)
S-1-5-18
S-1-5-19
S-1-5-20
S-1-5-21 long number follow's,
S-1-5-21 long number follow's, ends with "Classes" (There is no ".bk" OR ".bak")

(RIGHT SIDE SCREEN)
Name--------------- type-------------- Data
ab(Default)-------- REG_SZ ----------(Value not set)

There are NO DASHES inbetween what I typed, just did that to separate the groups.

That's what I'm looking at. There is no info on the right side, there should be all kinds of code, no? And the long numbers ARE the same, but don't have the .bk or the .bak.

Thanks again for your help!

Re: Another issue from a common problem, "The user profile service service failed the

I have forwarded your problem to another member who has more registry experience than I do. I dont want to guess and perhaps cause more problems. He will probably be on early tomorrow. Take care.

Re: Another issue from a common problem, "The user profile service service failed the

Hello Curt!

Sorry for the slight delay!

Where are you looking at exactly? Are you looking at

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList or HKEY_USERS?

With the exception of .DEFAULT, your description fits with HKEY_USERS.

However, it sounds as though you have an issue with your Profile List.

You also said, I think, that you can still access your Admin Account. If this is the case, there must be one good ProfileList SID left, I assume.

Could you please start regedit > File > Export > Selected Branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList > give it a name > OK > and upload that file.

If necessary, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder > and upload that file.

and I will see what I can do. Also, please navigate to HKEY_USERS

and right click on each key, Copy Key Name, and paste them into your reply here (to get for me all SIDs, without spending ages typing them out)

Thanks!

Richard

Has this problem been solved? I have same problem (SID with classes instead of .bak) this thread seemed to address the issue but is incomplete. Any idea where I can proceed?

Thanks Tony

Welcome to Vista Forums tony galko. Have you looked at this tutorial? http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/1...-logon-user-profile-cannot-loaded.html?filter

I wonder if you use AVG antivirus? When I formerly participated in AVG forums, I learned that their antivirus is notorious for corrupting user profiles. Although it never happened to me, that's one of many reasons that I no longer use AVG products.

Re: Another issue from a common problem, "The user profile service service failed the

I have tried the solutions in the tutorial unsuccessfully. I don't have the same information in regedit as the tutorial, i am shown the same as the originator of this thread ...

"Hello, I've searched the forum and read several threads on this topic "The user profile service service failed the logon".
