Com Port Reset for Vista

Good afternoon, I have been working with a Push Button Utility for the program PSremote that you plug into a com port. I have 2 computers, one with XP and one wtih Vista. The XP works perfectly and the Vista does not. The Vista does not recognize the com port. Everytime I uninstall the program and re-install it it cause my com port number to increase. I am currently at # 54. The Xp recognizes the Push Button Utiliy at coms 1,5,6,9. My question is how do I reset the com ports on the Vista so they are recognizable or back to lower numbers like the XP? I tried solving the problem with the postings found on google with no luck. I was hoping someone had an updated solution to help me reset the com ports.
thanks
mike

Hi,

I have not got this myself but look here & check you have installed it correctly. Also that you are using it as per the recommendations on USB ports & setting the comm ports etc.

PSRemote - External Pushbutton for Photobooth

As for the other devices "Hidden ports" follow these instructions & remove them: -

Right click on my computer
select Manage
go to Device manager

in the view menu select show "Hidden devices"

Now once there start deleting the com ports that are unused/ previously installed.

Thank you so much for your time. I know I have the RS-232 adaptor and push buttons set properly because they both function with the laptop with XP. I think the problem lies in the fact my USB com port is now reading 54, 55, 56, because I have uninstalled and reinstalled the driver so many times. I read in several places that some devices only work in the 1-10 USB ports. That is why I was trying to reset the USB ports back to the lower numbers. I am seriously considering downgrading to the XP I am so frustrated. This problem makes one of my Photo Booths need a full time attendant at my functions.
I appreciate the input

Hi,

Well, I think that is the answer. Why have you installed the driver software so many times? Each time will add a com port if you do not select one already installed!

Just in stall it once & select that com port when you plug it in a second, third or fouth USB slot.

Have you looked at un-installing the other com ports as per my instruction on the last post?

OK,

When you looked at the device manager screen (Post a picture, device connected & disconnected please) how many com ports did you see?
