Solved Aero not working

Hi,
earlier today I installed Windows updates (Vista x64) and updated my nVIDIA drivers. After rebooting, Aero was not working. I tried:
  • uninstalling all Windows updates
  • downgrading nVIDIA drivers
  • check if 'Themes' and 'Desktop Windows Manager' services are enabled
  • doing a clean install of nVIDIA drivers (actual and old)
  • manually uninstalling and reinstalling nVIDIA drivers (actual and old)
  • tried Microsoft FixIt solution (it told me "Desktop Windows Manager" was disabled, even if it is enabled in services.msc and that my theme didn't support Aero, even if I tried using Vista default theme. It was able to correct neither problem).
When I select the "Windows Aero" or "Windows Vista Basic" color scheme (they both appear twice in the list, but neither of them works), it doesn't show any preview and when I click either ok or apply, I get the "Please wait" Window and then it goes back to "Windows Classic" color scheme.
I unfortunately have no restore point of before the update.

Any help?

Try doing a system restore to yesterday... But it mightbe screwed up due to the driver install.

I found the solution to my problem. I asked a friend to send me those files from his computer (I can't tell which one solved the problem as I replaced them all at once) :
C:\Windows\Resources\Themes (the whole folder)
C:\Windows\System32\themeui.dll
C:\Windows\System32\uxtheme.dll
C:\Windows\System32\shsvcs.dll
Then I used Linux to replace them (as Windows refused to replace some while it was running) and now everything works perfectly.

Where did you put those .dlll files?

I placed them at the location I wrote. I took them from my friends computer, copied them to a thumb drive and pasted them in their respective folder using linux (make sure it's the same version of Vista).
You can also try what Shadowjk suggested.

What I have done Is the best way to do it - What Leomajko done was use a Different OS If you are not familliar with Linux then I would not Recommend Doing this Procedure

Are you, perhaps, using a program that enables you to use 3rd party themes, maybe something like VistaGlazz? It appears that the files that have been changed to enable 3rd party themes have been reverted back to the Vista versions. At that point, if a visual style not created by Microsoft is still active, Windows will fall back to Windows Classic mode.

I ran into this and when I went to personalize the desktop all Aero options were missing. I had to use the program (VistaGlazz) to patch the necessary dlls again. Uninstalling the latest updates didn't help as it still booted with the Windows Classic theme.
