[SOLVED] How to fix my MBR in Vista SP2?

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 x64, and I need to fix my MBR, and later remove the Ubuntu partition.

I have the reinstallation disk as supplied by DELL, but apparently that does not work for SP1 or SP2. I tried using it, and I got an error saying that my version of Windows is not supported by the disk.

What do I do?

Great, it worked! Thank you. I never knew that mbr could be fixed without the CD.

Edit: Just so you know, safe mode never loaded up for me, so I just loaded the command prompt from the "Repair" mode.

Hi Kenny, I know this is an old thread but I'm experiencing some problems with my HP Pavilion Elite.
To be more specific, its during the startup phase that something isn't right. I can still boot my PC however it takes a long time to reach my desktop. I'm using Vista Home Premium 64 SP2, fully up-to-date and up until a couple of weeks it ran smoothly, and fairly quick to boot. But now my system needs a long time to get through the File System scan my PC performs during every boot. This phase starts right after loading the Drivers in the startup process, then partitions are checked (I think). Kinda like Check Desk, yet with a brief scan (if all goes well). Usually that scan takes about 25 seconds in normal conditions, but now it takes probably close to two minutes, and I hear it on my PC too that something is wrong because he is using more system resources, the HDD has to work harder to do this scan. I don't know what is wrong with it, and after doing some reading on the net I thought that fixing my MBR might solve my problem, hence my reply to this older thread. Can you help me with that, or maybe offer a few other ways to see what is wrong with my machine during startup? Thanks...

PS if anyone else knowledgeable wants to chime in and offer some assistance that would be great too...
