Solved Before I try to Optimization for Vista you have posted...

Hi,

I also have the black screen problem after reinstall attempts from oem discs. I found when I ran gparted:

Gparted:

dev/sda1 Compaq 223.55GB 12.79GB used 210.77GB unused Boot
dev/sda2 Factory Image 9.34Gb 8.03GB used 1.30GB unused
unallocated 2.49 MB

Information shows sda1 and 2 not mounted.

Is this why maybe?

Thanks
Sandy

Hi,

No, that is just the representation of the disks & the space on them.

Can you get to the recovery partition options? (F11) If so are you prepared to completely wipe the drive (Loosing all information or do you have stuff you want to save)?

If you can wipe the drive choose that option, otherwise we have some work to do!

Hey, Thanks for replying.

I used killdisk to wipe the hard drive before I did reinstall thinking there was a virus on it, does this not wipe everything out??

Yes, I can get in to F11 with a windows boot disc (not the HP oem discs).

Hi,

OK, do you mean the installed HDD? or recovery OEM DVD?

If you are referring to a third party none OEM DVD - STOP! as you need access to the recovery stuff.

If it is the installed HDD, delete the current "C" partition, then format the drive & install again from the recovery partition (NOT the OEM recovery DVD).

This should sort out the problem. You could try the same option from the OEM recovery DVD disk (Do not delete the HDD recovery partition)!

Hey,

Yes its the original hd.

F11 with no disc - no option to partiton, only regular recovery manager.

F11 with original oem disc - no option, just adds compter checkup.

Is there another way without a third party disc?

Thank you
Sandy

Hi,

Just looked again at your last post. The answer should be in one of the options in the "regular recovery manager" window.

Please choose each option & look closely at them. I will look for an example of the selection needed. OK?

FIXED/SOLVED Re: Black Screen after Vista reinstall: Before I try Optimization...

Hey Thanks Lottiemansion for all your help, I found the solution and wanted to post it in case it helps anyone else...........

If the installation again stops at “completing installation” Restart the computer. Now try starting the computer in safe mode (Start tapping on the F8 key on the keyboard when the computer starts up till you get the Advanced boot options and select safe mode and press enter)

Once after you select safe mode, you may get an error “Installation cannot proceed in safe mode” ignore this message and press Shift+F10. This should open the command prompt.

In the command prompt type the following command and press enter

devmgmt.msc

This should open the Device manager. Under device manager disable Network adapters, Display adapters, Sound cards, Floppy disk controllers, Memory card readers and TV tuner cards.

Once after disabling these devices, restart the computer and the installation should proceed.

This worked! Installation completed and desktop is now loaded!

One thing I noticed when disabling network adapters, alot was listed there I know wasn't listed before, just go ahead and disable whatever is there.

"Solved"

Hey, Yes I made sure everything was enabled again and all was installed.
One thing I forgot to mention when I hit the ok on the windows cannot
complete installation in safe mode the computer automatically restarted
and completed setup. I would wait to see if that happens first before
manually restarting.

Again, thank you for everything!
