Hi. I have over 60 processes on start up & its using about 1.04gb ram.

Are there any processes here that I don't need on start up? Trying to slim the memory usage down.

thank you.

Go to start and type msconfig.
In msconfig go to startup.
That is the place to start. You will see many startup programs that you recognize. You will know that you do not need some at startup.
Black Viper is an excellent source for information on the subject.

I have un ticked everything possible in msconfig startup.

Looking through services, but most stuff looks important.

that site that I was linked to is a bit overwhelming. Do I dl a preset or something? Will it reduce memory usage significant?

Click on the top of memory usage. Lets see what is using ram. Clicking will put the usage in order, by amout used.
Also, click on show process by all users, first.
I am afraid however, that Vista needs and uses a lot of RAM a Minimum of 1GB is needed even to have Vista. I use 1.20 at startup, but I have 6GB.
I will look at the RAM that is used, but I think that you will not be able to do much. The removal of some features may help, but the gain will be nominal and you will lose the essence of Vista.

Why are you trying to slim down your memery usage? You bought the ram, so swhy would you not want to use it all?

I can see if youre bogged down, but if you have more than 4Gigs, then you should have no issues.

Its like ordering a 12" sub and never eating 6" of it.

I only have 4GB (well maxes out at only 3.25gb:sa:) & so trying to slim down so demanding games run goo. Too much work to upgrade to 64bit os & have to reinstall everything. maybe one day
