Windows Cannot Complete Installation In Safe Mode

Hi, i have a Packard Bell laptop with Windows Vista

The graphics card on the laptop is no longer working. The laptop halts at a black screen when loading windows, however was working perfectly in safe mode.
I spoke to technician who said to reinstall the operating system, so i used F8 and then chose 'Repair Computer', then selected Packard Bell recovery and chose to reinstall my laptop, which completed successfully.
The laptop restarts, and as it cant get to windows it can't complete the operating system installation, i try going into safe mode which loads but i get an error saying something along the lines of 'Windows cannot complete installation in safe mode. Shut down and try in windows'. I am stuck now and can't use the laptop at all. I want to be able to use the laptop atleast in safe mode, so need to complete the vista installation.

I can access the Command Prompt by through F8 and then choosing 'Repair Computer'. Can i use the command prompt to complete the installation.
Or is there any other way I can complete the installation?

Many Thanks

Hello, Welcome to the forun.

You should access BIOS and set CD/DVD as your first boot device. you could run the repair cd (which came with system) and try repair then system restore if that fails, then go for original factory setting.

Better run the factory and you will restore your machine to its original state, but you will lose all files and setting though.

but no worry, once at a point it gives you permission to take backup of all your data files and setting.

Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

The laptop did not come with a CD, it has the recovery stuff built in the laptop.

I have run the factory settings, which runs perfectly, but then the laptop needs to restart and then load the screens that show when you first buy a laptop (setting up user accounts etc).
As the laptop halts at a black screen, i cannot get to that stage to complete the factory settings installation.

The factory settings installation cannot complete in safe mode, so i need another way of completing the installation. I was wondering if i could do this using command prompt or something.
Thanks

That " recovery stuff ", I assume you meant Recovery Partition.

Call your computer manufacturer. They are the people who setup the recovery partition. They know precisely how to use it.
Ask them to teach you how to.
If that failed and I know see why it would fail, ask them to send you a set of recovery dics. The charge is minimal.
