Create ISO Image from Rar

Hey Guys
I can't create an ISO image from a rar file. I ought to be able to simply right click on one and extract here", it should then make an image file and put a disc icon on my desktop, instead I get another rar file, if I extract again as it will make one file of many, the completed file doesn't create a disc image and the single large file can't be opened or burned. I was leaning towards it being the way of the file associations, but I don't know if the settings need to be changed (for winrar to be associated with Imgburn or Imgburn to be associated with ISO)
If anyone has any insight on this I'd be very grateful, a lot of folks burn iso's
