Turned computer on earlier today. after opening firefox and attempting a search the program closed. since then almost all programs will not open properly.
In some cases clicking on shortcuts will cause a white box to appear as if the program was running and then immediatly close, other times nothing happens at all.
The only programs that seem to work correctly are internet explorer, no other internet browsers are working, and games.
i managed to run a full scan using microsoft security essentials on safe mode and removed all threats it found but this didnt fix the problem. i have tried system restore but just like everything else its not working. i cannot access security center, windows defender or windows firewall either.
