when I try to open an avi file from my hard drive this message appears "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel" I have also notice that I have lot the DivX icon with these files.

It's 100% safe since the AVI download will only restore the default associations for what opens it back to the default of Windows Media Player.
