Can't log on admin. Need help.

I change the name of the default administrator and set a password. then I changed my previous account to standard user. however when i log off i still only see my previous account which is not an admin, now i cant even change it back. when i access the user accounts and try to edit it to an admin. the UAC pops up sure enough i see the default administrator account with the recently changed name and password. when i try to type in the password i get "Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." this is really quite frustrating because i cant even run system restore to set it back to the day before i went and messed with the account settings.

Command prompt, net users show there to be 4 accounts listed. Administrator, Aspnet, Guest, Smith and the one i renamed recently is not among them. strangely enough on the welcome screen there is only one account which is the one without admin privileges.(the previous one)

Welcome

This should help

See if when you boot into Safe Mode that it will boot you into the built-in Administrator account since you do not have an administrator account anymore. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67567-administrator-account.html

Safe Mode

If it does, then you can change that account back to an administrator type account.

User Account Type

If it does not, then you can try a repair (upgrade) install to get a new administrator account.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the fast reply, i went into safe mode. the only account i could see was still the standard user, and went i went to change account settings UAC prompts me with the admin default admin account name i recently changed and when the password is input i get the same error message as before "logon failure: user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer." it doesnt make any sense to me, but uh i cant get my recovery disks to work properly either.

thanks anyways for the help. its probably time for me to upgrade to windows 7, that would definitely fix for sure right? i could set up a new account and all that good stuff?

Im surprised that the given suggestion did not work.
You were suppose to activate this special adminstrator in Safe Mode. I dont think that is what happened.

If that does not work, buy an ugrade version of Seven (its cheaper than the regular) if you install per these instructions, you will not longer have a problem and the install is just as good (its the same) as the regular version of Seven.
