Hello All,

Vista have lost "run as admin" on the right click of any file. If I am not mistaken , this happened after registry defrag. (I logged in vista as admin)

I tried the following

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WinRAR.ZIP\shell\runas\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\WinRAR\\WinRAR.exe\" \"%1\""

run as winrar.jpg

yet no run as admin appears option on the right click.

I have tried in window seven with similar approach and could add "run as admin" to all files on the right click yet I could not find that website.

Would you please suggest how to add run as on the right click to all file without having to change regisry for each file type, please?

Hello richc46 , thank you for suggestion , I just recognized that i manually backed up registry before registry defragmentation. The incident is solved now.

Regarding registry , I messed up by registry cleaner before ;therefore , I have never cleaned registry since then yet I thought defrag registry is different and would not delete the entry as I saw this tutorial.

16. Defragment the Registry Unlike registry cleaning utilities, no entries are removed from the registry. Instead, wasted space is reclaimed and the files are defragmented in the registry to improve performance. Free Registry Defrag is a great free program for this.

However, I would bare in mind about your advise. :)

If it ain't broke don't fix it!!! I also agree to stay away from registry cleaners with no exceptions (especially the ones you have to pay for).

Hello All,

Actually, the thread is already marked as solved;however, the problem occur again. This time I am not sure what cause the problem. One thing is strange is i download portable virtual box yet unable to extract the file (no file extracted) and after that i just notice that run as admin was disappeared.

Try merging the backed up registry , using Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WinRAR.ZIP\shell\runas\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\WinRAR\\WinRAR.exe\" \"%1\"" , together with doing system restore yet still no 'run as admin.' shows in the context munu.

Would you have any suggestion , please ?

The reason that you are having these problems is probably because you use stuff on the registry. After things are fixed, stay away from registry cleaners, and everything else.

Nice going!!!:) Really, if you are an administrator you usually don't need the run as administrator option. It's only when you don't run as an administration that you need the run as option.
