Problem with OS installation.

Hi Everyone! I'm new here and I'd like to ask for some help regarding about my installation with Vista.

My friend had a laptop and it got a problem. She gave it to me for repair and I couldn't solve it. The problem is about the "BOOTMgr" and it's missing. I've done researched and followed what others posted in forums. So what I did for the last time is to install a new copy of Windows Vista, I don't know if this is genuine or not but whenever I tried to install, I can't see any drivers during the installation. It just say "Load drivers", something like that but I can't see any drive in that laptop, only "Boot X".

And when I tried to do the Startup Repair, I can't also find its OS, so that is why I can't proceed to the startup repair. I always load the driver but I can't find any.

I know my explanation is not that clear, but I guess my problem is about the hard drive. I forgot, the laptop's brand is DELL.

Hi,

Dell computers normally come with two or three disks for recovery or a recovery partition on the hard disk: -

  1. Operating system recovery
  2. Drivers for the system for that specific model.
  3. Application software.
Have you got the drivers? If not, go to the Dell website for your specific model & download them. Then you can install from CD/ DVD. OK?

Let us know the exact model & we can help further.

There should be a recovery partition on the system. From there you can reinstall with this procedure:

· Save all yourimportant files.

· Unplug all the devicesand drivers from your CPU (except the keyboard and the mouse), including your printer, camera and memory stick.

. Shut off the computerand then turn it on, or simply restart it.

· As soon as you see theDell logo at the start keep on hitting the F8 key repeatedly. Do not stop untilyou see the screen that says "Repair your computer." There will beother options too but chose this option and hit Enter.

· Next you will see aprompt window giving you options to select the keyboard layout select from thedrop-down menu "US" and click "OK."

· On the next screen youwill be asked to select the user ID and the password of your Windows account. Select your user account, but makesure your user account has administrative functions. Type in your password. Ifyou don't have a password, leave it blank and click "OK."

· Now you will come to awindow with multiple options. Choose the one at the bottom that reads,"Dell Factory Image Restore." By clicking "Dell Factory ImageRestore" , it will generate an operation that will take about 45 minutesto complete.
