F8 Repair your computer turned off

Hi everybody. I have turned off the Recovery Option "repair your computer". I have used it a couple of times before, therefore I know I have this option on my acer aspire M164. I have read, that this option could have been turned off by my "network administrator". Since nobody else works with my computer, I am the administrator. How can I turn this option on? Thanks in advance for your precious help.

Thanks for your valuable answer. I should have been more specific. I was looking for the "repair your computer" because I just cannot start my acer aspire m1640 after a power failure. This hasn't been the first time it has happened. I used the "repair your computer" option to start again. But the last time I tried the option "repair your computer" had disappeared. I have been since Friday looking for a solution. All I get is a black monitor with the mouse cursor. Best regards!

Have you tried the F10 or F11 at startup, normally, the F8 is the key to let you into advanced options, but, some computers will use the 10 or 11 key , just tap them at start up , see which one works ?

Hmmm, did you make a disk when you bought this computer, I am not seeing a recovery console for this model ?

The operating system files may be damaged or missing. Insert the startup
disk you created during Windows setup into the floppy drive and
press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart your computer. This will automatically
diagnose your system and make necessary fixes. However, if the
diagnostic utility still reports a problem, then you may have to perform
the recovery process to restore your system to its original default factory
settings.

How can I restore my computer with the backup discs I created?

How can I restore my computer with the backup discs I created?

With user created backups you are able to restore your computer to the factory default settings. If backup discs were created instead of factory restore discs, these can be used instead and will restore the system to a user backup point.

Ensure that the computer is completely shutdown, then turn on the computer.
When the Acer splash screen appears, tap the Alt and F10 keys simultaneously. A screen stating "Starting Acer eRecovery" should appear.
From the recovery options, choose Restore system from CD/DVD.
Insert either the first Recovery or Backup disc that you created.
From the on-screen options, choose a backup.
Click OK and the installation will begin.
Change the disc as necessary when prompted.

Use your F2 and set BIOS to boot from cd/dvd first, then lets pop the appropriate recovery disk in and see if it takes you into the recovery console

Hi Dog. I have tried to do what the tutorial says. I get the following: CLIENT MAC ADDR: 00 24 21 0C 51 GUID: 0024210C-0C51-2009-0423-150250000000 DHCP.......

After a couple of minutes I get: PXE-MOF: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent. Reboot and Select proper Boot Advice or Insert prooper Boot Device and press key.
I insert the vista recovery dvd and then it repeats the same proceedure.

Problem with CMOS Setup Utility

American Megatrends

Hi everybody.
I have been trying to boot my Acer Aspire M1641 from the DVD CD drive.

After a power failure I couldn't start the computer anymore. I am trying to reboot using a Vista Recovery Disk.

I have done the following:
1. Turned on
2. Pressed "Delete" key
3. On the CMOS panel select "Advanced BIOS Features"
4. "First Boo Device"
5. Options CD/DVD: 3S- ATAPI DV
6. F10 Save and Exit

After that I get:
"NDIVIA Boot Agent 249.0542 CLIENT MAC ADDR and a series of numbers GUIDE and a series of numbers
DHCP....... and a moving cursor.

After some minutes I get:
"PXE-MOF: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent.
Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device an press a key".

I have inserted a 32 and a 62 bit Vista Recovery DVD. After that I get:
"NVIDIA Boot Agent" etc. again.
What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Problem with CMOS Setup Utility

Hello, you did not need to start another thread, now you have two Threads for same issue going on. See if your harddrive is failing, start out by trying to save your stuff using this : Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer - How-To Geek
If you cannot even get this to work, it may indicate that the hard drive is failing, and you may as well mark the other Thread closed since you have this one going on.
