Hello bigburt232 and welcome to the forums

Is this problem only occurring with this one download? Does it occur in all browsers? Can you please send us the link to the program, I'll try and download it and see if it works :)

Hello bighurt232 :)

That's great, it means that it's a problem with FireFox as opposed to your computer. What version of FireFox are you running? This can be found by going to Help > About.

Welcome
Due to different time zones and responsibilities, Tom is away. I think that I may be able to help you.
First download Macrium Reflect, make an image of what you have now and put it on an external hard drive. Then, no matter what happens, you can put the image back.
May I, also comment, that for the first time with Seven, I lost everything due to a freeze and a cold shutdown caused by updates; the OS or at least boot was gone. I used Macrium and everything was back like new. All my software, settings and even activation was back.
Update your image often
Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

To give you a direct answer, yes go to SP2, if only for security. You will not have a problem if you have an image in case it is needed.

Rich has already answered you, so I don't need to as well :) That's great, 11.0 is the latest version so there's no problems with that.

If you're still experiencing this problem after the updates are installed, then I would suggest that you install FEBE to backup your FireFox data:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/

If there isn't anything that you need to backup in Firefox (bookmarks, addons etc.), then you don't need FEBE.

Once you've done that, uninstall FireFox with RevoUninstaller:

Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Then reinstall FF:

Get More From Your Firefox

Sounds great :) Let us know how it goes!

If you've got questions the feel free to fire away! We'll do our best to answer them.

The MP4 video format isn't natively supported in Windows Media Player (or Windows for that matter), so you'll need to either choose a new media player, or install codecs on your computer - of which I would recommend the second option. A codec basically tells software (Windows Media Player, Windows Explorer etc.) how to handle a file. After installing them, your computer will know how to read the file and you will be able to play most video and audio formats in any program. You will also be able to see thumbnails of the videos in Windows Explorer. Like so:

intuitive.jpg

At our sister site, SevenForums, we have a member who specialises in codecs and he has made a codec pack. It can be found here:

Shark007.net - Windows Vista Codec Package

Download page: |MG| Vista Codec Package 6.2.6 Download

Download that and install it :) You should now be able to play your videos in Windows Media Player.

Yeah, you might have to download a few waves of updates before you get to SP2. Let us know when you do, in the mean time, we'll have a go at your codec problem.

other questions: i was not able to view thumbnails with pictures instead i was getting an icon, i went thru 3-4 different sets of instructions i found thru e-how to try 2 fix, but so far only 1 folder is allowing me to view thumbnails with pictures...any ides on how to fix?

Can you attach a screenshot of what you see please?

I downloaded vista codec file from shark site, am still not able to play mp4, couldnt find how to view settings left by codec file? how do i check settings.

What happens when you try and open a .mp4 video?

The settings can be edited by opening your Start Menu then Shark007 Codecs > Settings Application.

Launch this program, then go to the Help page, then click on Windows Filetype Associations (or something like this, I have the Windows 7 pack installed so it might be different). Select Yes to create WMP associations for your files. Now try opening your file :)

once again so far this is the best site ive come across for vista help! let me know if i should start new thread for different questions. THNX alot

I'm glad you've had a good experience with the site! You're most welcome for the help :) Thanks for the rep.
