Memory speed error?

Hey again! I'm back on the forums with a question.

I have 2x Kingston 4GB DDR3 Memory Sticks in my computer, They are both the same models: KVR1333D3N9/4G

Kingston Spec Sheet: http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/KVR1333D3N9_4G.pdf

On the Kingston Site and obviously on the KVR1333D3N9/4G it shows that the speed is 1333MHz, but when I plug them in for the first time the default speed is 1066MHz. My board supports 1333MHz+..

Is it a labelling error? I can overclock to 1333MHz fine and 1666Mhz I would just like to know why the default is 1066MHz :confused:

Hmm right now the timings are 10-10-10-25... but if i set to failsafe and default (which resets to 1066MHz) the timings are 9-9-9-24 and thats the default im sure.

It may be that your mobo can not read the SPD correctly.
The speed of 10-10-10-25 running at 1066 would not be that different than running at stock speed. If your memory can overclock then look at the overclocking forum for that bit extra for nothing.
Alternatively you may need to set the speeds for the memory in the bios yourself for a stable platform.

Ok thanks for the reply, the speeds are stable at 1666Mhz, i want to achieve 2100MHz but it keeps resetting to 1066MHz on boot... I have the spd at default and voltage at 1.6v what do i need to do to get the 2100Mhz???

Your chips are not designed to go that high, do so at your own risk.
In the BIOS you should have MB Intelligent Tweaker (Page 35 in the manual), you have the memory clock and multiplier on this page.

Your board may suport 1333mhz ram, but it doesn't do so as a default. Like my x58-ud3r, supports 1600mhz but it needs to be set in the bios.

You will NOT get 2100mhz out of that ram stable. It's not gonna happen. Your rams dropping back to 1066mhz because it is not stable.. I'd be surprised 1600 is stable, as its a big jump.

Yeah 1666Mhz is completely stable, the board supports 1333+ apparently...
i can even squeeze 1733MHz if i raise the CPU bus to 260 from 250 and 1.5v v-core (default is 1.4v)

Raising the voltage to high will damage the chips, there is a limit as how much of an overclock you can do.
