I am having an issue with my laptop, which quite frankly is driving me insane.
When I switch it on, it fails to boot into Vista, and will get as far as the scrolly box bit, as though it is loading, then restarts the laptop.
Here is a little bit of background behind it.
Firstly my antivirus software detected a virus and vaulted explorer.exe. This was easy to fix, as I only needed to remove it from the vault by using Task Manager, then allow it to kick in again.
However it then detected wininit.exe as a virus, did the same thing, however then restarted my laptop and since then I have never been able to get back into Windows.
I suspect wininit.exe is vital in booting Windows?
My next question would be, how do I go about fixing this.
I tried a good few things including trying Safe Mode, which doesn't work.
I've tried using ubuntu to replace wininit.exe by placing it into the Windows folder, but this doesn't seem to work either.
Any ideas anyone?
Step by step guide would be fab, as this laptop has been sitting for the best part of a year without use due to this.
Thanks.
