    ready boost

    i have a 8 gig flash drive ..i want to use to help add to my memory to play a game ...i formatted is to ntfs...(it was fat 32)...and both times i have addressed it to the system .....in the pull down ..i choose "ready boost"...it takes a couple of secs...then is says your device does not have the characteristics to preform this function.....can any one please help ...my fat choices are ntfs ...exfat..and fat 32..i have search the threads on this question ..and there are many different opinions whats the freaking deal

    It only works with some flash drives without making 5 changes in the registry.

    Adding memory really only helps with performance if you are constantly using virtual memory because you don't have enough physical memory. Also consider that physical memory is faster than USB drives so if you have less than 2 gb your best option would be to add more physical memory provided your computer has the capacity for more.

    Also Vista 32-bit (or any 32-bit OS) only has the ability to use 4 gb of ram so more than likely you won't be adding that much more usable memory by using that flash drive and you definitely won't be adding the full 8 gb. If you already have 4 gb then using the flash drive is pointless.

    The message you got means that your stick is too slow. But don't worry, Ready Boost does not really give you a lot of extra performance unless you have a superfast (expensive) stick. For the same money you can buy more RAM which is a much better deal.
