Solved Help! Folder disappeared!

Hi - This is my first post - I am pretty much a novice regarding computers. I use one but I don't really understand a lot of what goes on.

My Specs on an IQON, running Windows Vista Home Premium.
Intel(R)Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80 GHz
2.00 GB RAM
Intel (R) 82945 Express Chipset Family

I just tried to rename one of my Download folders (I seem to have 2)
I did get a warning message that some info might be damaged if I proceeded - I proceeded!
Suddenly all the folders in Download disappeared.
Is it possible to retrieve them or are they lost forever?

I hope you can help, please. Any info will be greatly appreciated - even if it is bad news!

Many thanks.

Hi richc46 - Thanks very much for the prompt reply. Before I go any further, you mentioned the operating system. What I had just done prior to trying to rename the Downloads folder was: I went into the Program files - cut an item & pasted it into the Downloads folder. Then I tried to rename the Folder 'Downloads 1'. Then all contents disappeared.

Does this help you in any way?

Go with the System Restore.

Hi again - Well I followed your good advice, step by step, and the computer tells me:

X No restore points have been created on your computer's system disk. To create a restore point ... etc.

I did see though, earlier on today somewhere (?) when I was clicking that I had made a restore point on 25/07/12. So now I am totally confused!

Sorry to be a niusance - can I try anything else?

Hi richc64 - Good news! Found a further option in your video: right clicked on the open (empty) Downloads folder/clicked 'Location' tag on drop down box which miraculously took me to the contents which I feared had been lost/copied each file back into Downloads folder so kind of back to normal - thanks to your very welcome advice.
I musn't ignore warning boxes in future!!! Many thanks for your excellent help.
