I am using 1GB of 4GB of Ram.How can I see how much is used for each purpose??

Hit alt cntrl and delete at the same time, bring up device manager and then click on
process and then show useage from all users. The look at the ram (memory) column

Yep, Process Explorer provides more details and is also useful for seeing what programs are consuming the most CPU processing. It's also pretty quick to start.
