Hi
I need help, my laptop runs up to log in then after I log in there is a quick view of the desktop ( about 0.5seconds) then the screen turns white and I can see nothing at all.
Carl, alt, del brings up the lock this pc etc, when I start task manager I get the white screen back.
Have tried using safe mode, different screen resolution from repair screen to no avail.

Has anybody any ideas please

Thanks

Eric

Hi, thanks for the prompt replies.

All modes - laptop boots up, can sign in then the white screen appears, I can move mouse around and that's it. As I said when opening windows I get a very quick shot of the desktop which then goes to white screen again.

On f8 during boot up - see .jpg, have tried all combinations, no problems found but still get the white screen every time.

On shutdown from windows there is a quick flash of the desktop then shutdown continues.

I suppose the only thing left is to re-install windows but this will lose all my files.

Unless ..............

Cheers

Eric

Hi,
Check in system set-up if the same white screen appears.

Run the built-in diagnostics provided by the manufacturer on the computer to check if the white screen is still coming up.

If yes, then it would be related to the hardware of the computer.

Please post back with the results.

Hi
Thanks again for the input.

I have run the diagnostics shown on F8 from startup.

I cannot see anything after logging on, except that I get a quick flash of the desktop so I cannot run any diagnostics that are (normally) available in window vista.

Will keep trying though, the last resort is to try a re-install of windows if ai can find the darned system disks

Thanks again

Eric

Hi there,
New to this Forum but I have exactly the same problem on a Clients laptop and wonder if you have managed to fix yours? I can log on to the laptop as Administrator and the desktop and screen works perfectly. So, in my case anyway, it is not a hardware issue. I think it relates to something which has been set inadvertently in the Users Profile.

Hi

I managed to get rid of the white screen by constantly pressing Esc during log on. this took me top the desktop without a white screen.
ThenI managed to system restore to get back to earliest point.

So it looks like some programme was added which sent the screen white.

Just in case did a virus scan, foiund nothing.

Hope this helps

Cheers
