dell v515w only prints when I restart Vista

Hello.

Don't know if this is the right section, but I have a problem with Dell v515 printing in Vista. It will not print when I am trying to print out a document, web page, etc. Every since I installed iolo system mechanic, my printer acts weird on my home vista. My printer lags and won't print. Strangely enough when I am printing something from my laptop, the printer acts normal. The only way I can print anything from my Vista is to restart the computer and then the printer start printing instead of lagging on and on.

I had recently uninstalled System Mechanic, hoping that my printer will start printing as normal, but it still lags. I had originally installed Iolo System Mechanic as my Vista randomly crashes/freezes nearly 10-15 minutes after I turn it on, forcing me to restart it each time. I was hoping that System Mechanic would solve my problems, but unfortunately it didn't.

I hope there's someone in this forum that may have some answers for my problem, regarding the v515 Dell printer. Thanks.

Hi disman00911,

To isolate the issue please let me know if copier on the printer works. LCD screen of the printer should be on copy mode. To make a copy, insert a document in the scanner bed, then press the start button and check.

If this is working fine, then print using USB cable. If these two steps work fine, then hardware is working fine.

It can be an issue with the software due to which printer is unable to print until the computer is restarted.

There are a set of Services which has to be started. These are required by the printer to print the spooled documents from the computer.

Perform the steps given below and ensure that the services required are started:
1. Press the “Windows + R” to launch the run window.
2. Type “Services.msc” in the run window and hit the Enter key.
Right click each service that is mentioned below, click properties. Set the startup type as “Automatic” from the drop down menu and click “Start”. Please click “Apply” to save the changes.

The services to be enabled are:
• Human Interface Devices (HID).
• Printer Spooler.
• RPC (Remote Procedure Call).
• RPC Locator (Remote Procedure Call Locator).
• Windows image acquisition (WIA).
• Windows Installer.

After starting the services, restart the computer and try to print from the computer.

Please post back with the results.

Here are the few steps which you may try:

Step 2: I would recommend you to place the computer in clean boot.

You can start Windows Vista or Windows 7 by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This kind of startup is known as a "clean boot." A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. The following article describes how to troubleshoot problems in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 by performing a clean boot:

Note: Put the computer to normal as mentioned in Step 7 from the KB article.

If the issue doesn’t persists when the Computer is in clean boot or while in the Safe Mode with Networking, then the issue is confirmed to be caused by a certain non-Microsoft applications.

Method 2:
Run a virus scanner and check:
Virus are known to cause these issues. Scan your computer from Microsoft Safety Scanner, which helps to get rid of virus, spyware, and malicious software.

Method 3:
Try to download the latest driver and firmware for the printer from the following dell website and check if it helps.

You may select the operating system version (32 or 64 bit) by clicking the drop down menu under operating system from the following dell website and check.
