Welcome
Seems like your computer froze. There is only one thing to do and that is to press the shut down button for a few seconds and it should shut down.
We do not want this to happen again, since shutting down in this fashion can cause minor hard drive problems. The problem that it will cause can normally be corrected with a chkdsk, which is included with your operating system. The problem is the number of times that the problem can be fixed is limited. If the freeze happens again, we must work together to try and find the cause.

These things happen to everyone on an isolated basis. If it happens again, we start with event viewer and go from there.

ok thanks.
as its not a good thing (does damage to drive etc)
would it not be better to use event viewer now rather than let it happen again?

Its your computer and you can try to track it down now, but it can be a long process of hit and miss. I think that it was just an isolated case. What you can do to try and stop it from happening, before shut down log our and/or shut down anything running IE, software etc.
Run chkdsk, what does it show?

ok it is updating at the mo. 15 more updates. il let them finish see how things are after

then try running chkdsk..

also dont know if it may be an issue i nstalled drivers yesterday when i was installing the nvidia ones there was an option to use or not. the nvidie storage controller driver (wich i think replaces the windows one) could that be a possible cause?

Ah, i bet you you shutdown as it was doing part of the update process, so it barfed.

It could be an issue with he nvidia stuff, but repeated shutdown issues are needed to really know

Yes, your mobo has Nvidia chipset on it, so it needs to have the drivers.

I'm thinking it was a bad install, so I would uninstall and try again.
