Have looke throught the posts here and tried the one posted just over a year ago. Did not work.

All of a sudden while working on managing files and photos every item/icon except details and tile views no longer show any text related to the icon. This includes file and folder on 4 seperate drives with the exception of the user folder and its contents.

Have tried the reset folder View, tried every possible settings to the folders views but can find nothing to fix this.

That works on a per folder basis and to to sub folders, this will help lots but I will have to perform this on each folder and sub folder as I open them on hundreds of folders on multiple drives?

Ok, if I select each drive one at a time, open it into window viewing the contents of drive, right clicking open area selecting properties, customize, setting the folder type template as Picture and Video, checking the box to include all sub folders, selecting, and appling. Right clicking again in the open area and selecting views, now seleting views the optionthe option to turn on and off the text under the icons reappears on the menu. But now I can change them all back in about 15 min. Your suggestion was correct way to go but requires changing each drives entire contents to Picture and Video template for viewing folders in order to see the option for turning on and off the text in the fly out menu for the option for the current folder viewer. As to why everything attached to the computer changed to this view for folders can only be blamed on grimlins.

Not sure what changed it to begin with either, but I'd recommend to do a full scan of your system with MalwareBytes Free just to help make sure your system is clean.

Are you talking about the shortcuts on the desktop, or all of the file names that would normally show in Windows Explorer? If it's the latter, then Shawn's idea is best--make sure your system is clean.
