1. It looks like your image is 16GB, not 7. That makes more sense.

2. Looks like everything is there.

3. The VHD will be automatically dismounted when you shut the system down. Tomorrow you won't see it any more.

Hmm, that is strange indeed. Your image VHD (D: drive) shows 16GB used. No idea where those 7GB in the image properties come from. Set your F: to "details View". What does it say under 'Size'.

ad2) looks like the image is complete.

ad3) That's OK.

You are doing nothing wrong. I image from a SSD to an internal HDD. I can do even faster when I image to my eSata SSD. Your times are completely within the norm for the setup you have.

thought my set up may be cause of increased image creation time.. but im doing the procedure correct then? why the descrency in size i wonder? does your image appear smaller in the external hdd image folder than it does in vhd? like mine or is yours say 16gb in both locations? just wondering?

thanks

Your runtime is OK, don't worry about that.

But the 7GB image still puzzles me and also the fact that your VHD is not equal to the OS partition. Here is a comparison for the image I took yesterday. The VHD is equal to the C partition.

I looked at all your screens and superficially it looks OK. But we don't know what may be missing inside of those folders. There is a chunk of bytes missing in your image and that does not sound right.

I suggest the following - Boot your PC with the WinPE CD and take an image with that (same as with the installed program). Then let's see what we get.

0h ok so boot the recovery tool and create an image using the macrium program that loads within win pe and try that.
and see what that tells us

when you say chunk of bytes missing? how do you tell from what i could see macrium image had more files and folders than windows itself?

as for folder i have checked easch folder on virtual disk and compared to win disk and each one has the same files in side like for like. but i will still try the win pe recovery image creation method..

thaks

Let's just try with the WinPE to double check. If that comes out with 7GB too, then we are on the safe side.

I was just concerned that your Macrium installation may have a little defect. Even if all the folders are there, it is hard to check whether all the data is there too. But maybe the compression is right because you have a lot of 'dead space' - e.g. large page and hibernation files.

image completed

it took 29mins to complete as appose to previous took 14mins to complete could be that it was made using winPE i suppose

also i noticed when using winpe it stated it was 64bit edition. my win version is 32bit ed is that ok that its different on the winpe macrium recovery?
