How to unlock a locked a user account in windows xp? I mean after pressing windows key + L without a previous user login to his account and log off i can't log on to my own account.

Hello Stuckfree,

As rightly mentioned by LottieMansion, we need to reboot the computer. Unlike Windows vista or 7, XP does not has the feature of switching user once the user account is locked (Windows+L).

Sorry to mention my point was to be able to log on to my account without restart pc.

For my account i do know, i can't log in to my account because someone is locked his account unless this guy log in to his account and then log off i will be able to log on to my account.

This can be inconvenience, each time a person is away you can't use a computer, am i right?

The problem is this guy doesn't use fast switch user mode, he just locked up his account and when i need to worked with this computer i can't log on.

So i really need to find a way to bypass the locked account and be able to log on to my own account.

I just replicated your situation on my XP virtual machine and the box I get says "This computer is in use and has been locked. Only [logged in user] or an administrator can unlock this computer." If yours says the same and you are an administrator you should be able to log in using your credentials. Note that the user will be logged out and he will lose anything that he is working on that has not been saved.

In the future if the other user locked the screen and fast user switching is enabled there is a login menu kind of like a Vista where you can select another account to log in. That is the point of fast user switching. Multiple users can have sessions going at once however only one user can be using the system at a time.

Yes it is but if you are an administrator you can use your own username/password and log in. This will however log the other user out since without having fast user switching enabled only one user can be logged in at a time.
