Solved My Experience with SSDs & Vista

Here is my experience with a SSD (Solid State Drive) and Vista.

Steps I have taken for it's install :-
1. Modified the registry Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
Set the value to 0 (zero)
2. Disabled Superfetch and Readyboost
3. I use a 3rd Party Defragger – Auslogics Disk Defrag already, so I can pick and choose which drives I want to defrag.
4. Modified [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters] to 0 (zero)
5. Modified [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction]
"Enable"="N"
6. Set my BIOS to AHCI
7. Rebooted, it installed my drivers.
8. Rebooted again because it told me I had to lol

Prior to the installation of the SSD, I wanted to make sure everything was running properly just in case of a hiccup.

Sure enough there was a hiccup, my boot order is 1. CD 2. CD 3. HDD, for some reason (still unknown), on boot up my OS booted straight into Windows, it bypassed the BIOS and wasn't reading the optical drives. (Windows could see the optical drives) Loaded the default BIOS, regained my optical drives. BUT lost my OS.

Installed the SSD, put the Vista Disk in to load Windows, and loading of Windows, continuously just looped.

Even though I prefer Vista over Win7, I have a Retail copy of Win7, put that in, and Win7 loaded onto the SSD.

I then used a Macrium Reflect Image I had of Vista, restored it, and am now back on Vista

Odd on boot order issues. Might have been an SP2 thing.

I love SSDs, 32 sec reboot is quite nice.

Yes the boot order had me confused I still don't know what caused it. I also lost one HDD, the SSD took over.(Thank goodness for Externals :D) But yes the boot times are awesome and the opening of applications, if you blink you miss it lol.
