Computer restarting

Welcome
Your problem is apparently caused by your anti virus McAfee. Make a system restore point>uninstall>replace with Microsoft Security Essentials, at least for a test.
I know you paid for McAfee, but that money is gone. If Essentials solves the problem, I would rather lose the few dollars spent (Essentials is free) and not have computer problems. But lets test first.

The problem appeared solved. Then it started restarting again though not as frequently. Now instead of every 20-40 mins the computer can stay on for hours before it restarts itself.

I doubt it's the McAfee software as we haven't received similar complaints in the forums there. You could easily test that theory by uninstalling it in Control Panel, running their cleanup tool, rebooting and either doing as suggested install MSE (which, by the way, provides less protection) or reinstall the software from your online account. It's probably hardware-related or corrupted drivers. Have you been running registry cleaners lately? If so, see if they have a restore tab.

As Richc46 said, it's best to have the files.

It could be your CPU is overheating. In that case, it will just shut down and restart without a BSOD. Check to make sure all the fans and vents on your system are clean.
