Missing restore points

Hi:

Due to a sudden loss of electricity during booting , all the restore points are gone as reported by Vista 64 that there were no restore points created. Is there a way to recover these restore points?

I exported a registry file a few days ago, so is it a good idea to import it back to the current registry and use registry repair to remove duplicates, etc??

Also, where are these restore points stored?

This is about all you can do now. Make a new restore point and then begin to save them as you did in the past. The old ones are gone.
What I do in lieu of restore points is make and image once a week on Macrium Reflect. It is much better than restore. It is an image of the entire hard drive. It save me more than once.

Unless you are having major problems, leave the registry alone.
You do not need the old restore points.

Damn, and I guess a UPS too!

System restore points are stored in the "System Volume Information" folder in the root of all protected drives. By default it is hidden and even an admin account does not have access. Unless you fully understand what you are doing and have a good reason this should not be changed. Improper modification can have serious consequences.

I would try doing a chkdsk, see if it corrects the problem.

+1 NTFS is a journaling file system. So there's always a chance that partial file corruptions may be fixed by chkdsk. It's worth a try before making lots of changes.
