Solved Computer Has Insomnia

Why doesn't Vista allow me to put my computer to sleep anymore? When I go to Power Options, there is no option for sleep, just shutting down and turning off the display. It used to let me do this. the only change of late is that I decided to use generic VGA drivers instead of Nvidia's, but I don't see how that would have anything to do with it.

Look in the power options and make sure that sleep is enabled.

thanks for the suggestion. I have looked at the troubleshooters but found nothing that related. It's weird, the choice for "sleep" is just greyed-out. I wonder if it's bevause I'm using Standard VGA drivers, which I have gone to because of Display Driver Failures. I can't find an Nvidia driver that will work, without causing these extremely irritating black screens. you know how irritated I must be to have to use VGA drivers! but they're actually not that bad once you get used to them. Extremely stable. Needless to say, I'm not using them for gaming

Just wanted to update and close this. I finally found stable graphics drivers for Vista. since then, I again have the sleep option available. I had been using VGA drivers, and the sleep option was greyed-out. so that was the issue.

I'm glad you figured it out. It's my opinion to leave the drivers alone unless you are having trouble with them and that includes updates.
