Solved Can I install Vista on my computer?

Hello everyone!

I have a home built computer with a gigabyte motherboard. When I try to install Windows Vista Home Premium on my computer it is very slow, and says that my AHCI hdd is not compatible. I believe this may be a problem with the driver because I could only find one for Windows XP. I have tried running SATA in IDE mode only to get errors later in the installation. Is there a way to get around this?

Here are my specs:

Ga-ep46-ud3r with latest bios
SATA maxtor hdd controlled with AHCI
2x4gb ram
Intel pentium quad core
Pny geforce gt 630 2gb graphics card
SAMSUNG DVD Burner 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL - OEM also controlled by AHCI
I am using a Windows Vista Ultimate DVD that I burned form the web.

During installation, try hitting F6 to install a driver necessary for a ACHI Sata setup.

Thanks for the reply. Although pressing F6 during the installation did not work because when it asked for a floppy I guess it could not recognize the one I made, probably a problem with the floppy drive, I have been able to at least install windows XP by slipstreaming drivers using nLite so all is solved. Thanks again for the help.

Well I didn't provide much help. However, I got thinking about it and I think that conventional wisdom is to install in RAID mode and then change the BIOS to ACHD.

You can use vlite to slipstream a Vista install disk.

I think if you change the BIOS from ACHI to RAID, as I mentioned above, before installing, you won't have this problem. You can always change to ACHI later.
