Solved Snipping tool is not working

Hi:

Whenever I start using Snipping Tool (Vista 64) for the first time after boot, the system gives me this message:

"Snipping Tool is not working right now , .... restart computer...."

Without reboot , I just close this message dialog window and restart the Snipping Tool the second time, it works fine , capture and save images , etc.

...but it is annoying this happens every time after reboot; if I use Snipping Tool the first time after reboot, the same message pops up, subsequent calls to the Snipping Tool works fine.

This pops up all of the sudden. I never got this before , just works even the first time after reboot.

The only thing I did a few days ago was the installation of a network printer . I deleted the printer from the network and uninstalled the driver, didn't help.

I also tried the followings but none of them worked:

1) rolled-back of the registry to the point before installing the printer.
2) used sfc /scannow to fix system files.
3) as some suggested online, killed the Snipping Tool process and restarted it.
4) Used Office diagnostics
5) used virus /rootkit scans
6) replaced it with the original copy of the SnipperTool.exe
7) de-activated firewall.
8) removed Tablet features (thus Snipping tool), etc , then re-activated the Tablet features.

I want to get rid of this annoyance , any help is appreciated.

Regards

Also, I want to ask how to locate anything related to Snipping Tool in event viewer. The events are listed within numerous groups and categories , a time comsuming process to go through them one-by-one, or even able to recognise anything related to the problem at hand.

After all these months , finally found the problem. It is Windows update KB2918614.

My advice is this : do not install any updates that Microsoft throws at you, sometimes they cause even more problems than they try to solve!

I disagree. You are leaving your self open to security issues if you don't patch the OS unless of course you completely disconnect from the internet and don't plug in any USB drives or floppy disks. Then you are safe.

I've had no issues with Snipping Tool at all and that update came in ages ago. Take the advice given, do not refuse updates as that is not the solution but certainly is courting disaster. I would look elsewhere for the blame, possibly some desktop customization or some kind of blocker you may be using...but that's only a guess.

There were issues with that update when it first was issued but that was fixed and I don't believe that it had any effect on Snipping Tool anyway.

By the way, patches aren't there to "solve" issues but to prevent issues. It's doing it's job if you don't even notice it. Plus the majority of the patch releases over the years have had little to no negative affect on OS or program functionality. It is a bad practice not to install patches not just for you but anyone accessing the internet. Each and every hacked system impacted by exploited security vulnerabilities is a threat to everyone else. Please heed our advise.

No , it is the patch, after I uninstall it , the snipping tool worked fine (other people were having the same problem).

I would find out more about each updates before committing.

Then you should seek out Microsoft support for that. It's free when it applies to updates.

I would agree ALMOST 100% but there are times that updates ruin or break an application (it has yet to happen to me, so that's why I side with you for the most part). You should talk to the people over at xpforums.com. One guy there believes updates are a sham.

I didn't say that they don't or can't cause issues. Personally the worst problem I've had with an update (other than some refusing to update) was the endless loop issue that sometimes happens with one of the Vista service packs.
