Removed partition w/Vista can Product ID be reused?

Would appreciate some help.

Had a dual boot laptop with W7 on one partition, and Vista on another.

Removed the Vista partition and therefore the OS.

Is it possible to sell the Vista CD/DVD, or, will there be a problem with the Product ID?

Thanks in advance!

If it is a retail license, there should be no problem. An OEM license would not activate on another PC. Question is whether anybody wants to buy Vista. We are now looking at Windows 10, LOL

Bought the CD online a few years ago (maybe eBay), installed it on the dual boot HannSpree laptop, and it activated without problems. If it were an OEM license, would it have activated?

There is already a senior citizen buyer for the Vista CD. There are folks that get used to something, and do not want to use anything else.

Both retail and OEM licenses activate. The difference is that an OEM license you can install only once. It has to remain with the motherboard where it was first installed. Even if you only change the motherboard on the same puter, the OEM license will not activate.

But if you bought your license from eBay, it is most likely a retail license. Press Start > right click on Computer > Properties. There it will tell you under "Windows Activation" on the bottom of the page. If it does not say OEM in the product ID, then it is retail.

I thought that an OEM copy could be installed multiple times but will only activate on one system.

That is correct. Multiple installations are possible - but only on the same mobo.

If the installer was on the hard drive then it was likely an OEM. :(

What he meant was if that was a PC that came with the OS already preinstalled, then it is an OEM. But if you went out and bought a license and an installation disc and installed it yourself, then it is a retail.

Was there a installation partition? If so it was likely OEM. That's what I meant.

townsbg,

It is a laptop with W7 preinstalled. Created a new partition to have a dual boot with W7 on one partition, and Vista on another.

The laptop (HannSpree) did not come with Vista preinstalled.

Recently, removed the Vista partition containing the Vista OS.
