You need to make sure that there are Vista drivers for your system. Without more information on your system we can't help you further on that.

Why don't you install 1 system in virtual with VMware Player. That's a lot easier and you don't have to worry about drivers. Plus you can run them side by side like in my example:

I have the same problem.Vista gives a BSOD during the first reboot(at least for me).It is recommended that you install the older OS first, because the older OS may overwrite the Windows 8 boot files and make it unbootable.Windows 7 isn't a big problem, since it has compatibility with most of the drivers for Windows 8.You may get a 0x0000001e error in the first reboot. If that happens, there are several reasons, based on Microsoft's article:
1)Disk space can be little,so you may have to free up some.
2)Faulty driver(s).You will have to uninstall the driver that is listed in the blue screen.
3)BIOS incompatibility. If your computer has UEFI,chances are that you're using a Vista DVD without Service Pack 1.You need the Vista DVD with Service Pack 1.This is not needed if you don't have a 64-bit computer, but for compatibility reasons, you can use the newer version.
If you solved it,please tell the steps you followed to help everyone who sees this thread.
