Hi Jerry8A-

Is this question related to uploading a image to the forum or something else?

This is my specific issue. When I use an online chat line to explain a problem that I see on my computer screen, I am asked to describe what I am seeing. Since I cannot use an attachment in that case, I want to direct the online chat person to a snapshot of what I am describing.

I have tried to use directions from online search, but was not successful. So, I probably need a little “hand holding” to get it done.

That puzzled me too.

If you have Skype, you can right click on the file and select Send To, Skype. You can also send it to e-mail. I don't have time right now to chase this.

Thanks for your suggestions. With my online search I found the below. However, for some reason it did not work for me, so I am probably missing something.

Create a customized hyperlink to a document, file, or Web page

1. Select the text or picture that you want to display as the hyperlink.
2. On the Insert tab, in the Links group, click Hyperlink
You can also right-click the text or picture and then click Hyperlink on the shortcut menu.
3. Do one of the following:
o To link to an existing file or Web page, click Existing File or Web Page under Link to, and then type the address that you want to link to in the Address box. If you don't know the address for a file, click the arrow in the Look in list, and then navigate to the file that you want.
o To link to a file that you haven't created yet, click Create New Document under Link to, type the name of the new file in the Name of new document box, and then, under When to edit, click Edit the new document later or Edit the new document now.
NOTE To customize the ScreenTip that appears when you rest the pointer over the hyperlink, clickScreenTip and then type the text that you want. If you don't specify a tip, Word uses the path or address of the file as the tip.

Hi Patonb- Thanks for chiming in. I'm over my head. In fact, the link I provided was from the year 2000 and I didn't notice until the post from before yours was made.

What does your response mean?

Hello –

I currently use Photobucket. It is a file sharing software. However, I find it somewhat confusing and have difficulty using it. Also, when you do use it, your link contains ads unless you pay for a premium service. There is another file sharing program that I was made aware of called OneDrive put out by Microsoft. I have not had a chance to look into it, but may later.

My post was made to try and find a file sharing process that did not require me to download a program and control it only from my computer’s software.

If you upload a file to filedropper.com, it will give you links to the file when it's done. One of them is Embed Code which allows you to share the link on websites.

Looks like a good source. I rarely have to use hyperlink so I don’t need it on a constant basis. That being said, it appears the site requires a fee of $0.99 per month. I believe OneDrive is free.

Jerry

My Computer

That fee is for 5 GB of space for backups. Simply uploading a file isn't a backup.

What an easy process to use – great suggestion. The only minor drawback is when you connect to the link, File Dropper has you first go through their sign-up ad and then you need to enter their security code to download. Other than that, it is straightforward.

Thanks,
Jerry

Hello All –

Photobucket---

I agree the upload process appears straightforward. One trouble I had with is the tabs you can select such as Library, Your Bucket, Recent Uploads, etc. I tried for several minutes to delete my uploaded images and could not find the correct tab – thinking that on all tabs which showed my image it could be deleted. It turns out only specific tabs will allow you to delete. And then when I deleted my image, and went back to that link, the image still appeared in Photbucket. Eventually, the image did delete. I’m thinking the image got deleted because I rebooted my computer and/or the site took some time to process my delete command.

Moreover, when you do upload an image, there are boxes to select as to which share link you want to use. Of course, unless you read the FAQ links, one does not know which box to choose, and even then it can be confusing. And then to complicate it more, your choice of share link boxes changes when you select another tab. So, unless you know in advance, you could be selecting the wrong box.

And, as I mentioned earlier, when the link is activated and appears at its destination the image is surrounded by ads, Photobucket text, etc. unless you pay a fee.

Now, in all fairness, the site was probably developed to perform many different tasks for those who need and know how to use them. For a beginner who only needs one basic file sharing command, it was a bit intimidating and time consuming to understand.

Jerry

Oh well. Least you tried.

I agree, Photobucket can be a bit confusing. I would recommend to use TinyPic. There you need not even log in. Upload your pic an choose Direct Link and post that. Anybody can then get at that picture. IMG code is another option - that shows the pic e.g. in a forum, but in a chat room I am not sure.

Don't try OneDrive. If you think Photobucket is difficult, OneDrive will be a real challenge for the sharing options. And there you cannot display pictures directly, only download. You can, however display PDFs with pictures and pictures as hyperlinks like this. You can even upload PowerPoint shows and they play on-line like this. Only the music gets lost.
