Vista won't accept password

My hard drive crashed and so they put in a new one. I put the password in again via Control Panel but now when I enter it it says password and user name do not match

The problem is on my laptop. I'm on the desktop now. I can't get into the laptop at all. The CD Rom thing on the laptop is broken too and HP "doesn't make those parts anymore" so I can't use any disks. Is there anyway to get in?

How do I subscribe to this thread?

I thought maybe the 171 updates might help somehow. But it took them forever and now it says they weren't configured correctly and it's reverting the changes and that's taking forever. This has been going on for about 5 hours :(

I could get you an install DVD for Vista, would that help? You must have a valid key number, however, do you have one?
The ISO download to burn the DVD is free, compliments of a Forum member.

Thanks, I don't know of any key number though, or if there is one how to get it or where it is. Also that thing you put the disc in is broken so the DVD wouldn't help

Good
This is what you do
post your email address in this thread. Post exactly what you need. For example Vista 64 bit Home Premium
http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/296167-vista-iso-download-139.html
No one at the forum suggests that anything be purchased. Any time that you see a price mentioned look for the trial version, that is all you will need
After you get the information to burn the DVD, come back and delete your address
Then read the information about a bootable USB and maybe you can resolve your problem
Make sure that you keep us updated. If this works, you will be helping many with the solution.

I have a question, if they put in a new hard drive, they installed Vista, they would have the passwords. You may want to contact them before doing anything.
They used their own passwords not yours.

They changed the password when they installed the new HD
Try not putting a password
and try using password as the password
Then call them to ask before trying anything

Now the laptop won't even turn on  I thought I had found the solution because I got into BIOS which has a thing there that supposedly lets you change the administer password, which I did, but when I tried that new password it was still rejected.

I'm taking it back to the shop Monday

My Computer

How did you get on with the shop?
If you still need help I can send you a link to a password remover boot disc
