Booted up everythings gone :0( Help Please

Really, really hoping someone can help. I have a lenovo T400 with Vista Business on it, its always worked fine the last windows update was 10th June and its worked fine since but yesterday when i booted it up i noticed my screen saver was gone along with my icons and files on the desktop. When i checked my documents folder it was empty so was everything else. My outlook express was also empty as if there were no accounts ever registered and a welcome page appeared. When i tried to click on internet explorer all i get is about blank tabs and then error boxes pop up.
I tried 4 times to restore to a previous time some from june and the last being may it seems liked its worked but when it restarts the same vista desktop with limited icons is still there.
When i typed in the start/search menu my daughters name it shows in the indexed area most of my photos, some nusic files and some emais so they're clearly all still there.
Please please please can somebody help me fix this problem.
ive runs virus scans and malwarebyes but nothings showing up and im absolutely stumped and desperate.

Everything is still there. You most likely have a corrupted profile.

Open My COmputer, navigate to C:\Users

See if your account name is listed there. If yes, check Documents, you should see you stuff.

If there, follow these directions, see if it gets you back to where you should be:

Before doing any of the following, make a backup of your registry. I suggest you install ERUNT to do this.

Your files are still there. Sounds like your user profile has lost it's connection with where it's data is stored. If you are comfortable with using regedit, try this by booting to Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Login as Administrator, no password.

The key is a registry hack that redirects Windows back to the ProfileImagePath of the original profile.

Click on Start then Run. type regedit and press Enter or click OK.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

Once there, you will see the SID's listed for all of the profiles on the machine. Something like this:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-18
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-19
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-20
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-2734701773-3490380084-605924724-1001
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-2734701773-3490380084-605924724-1004
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-1-5-21-2734701773-3490380084-605924724-500

On my system, my profile is under the one that ends in 1001, yours may be different, check them all.

Within the Key for each SID there is an entry called "ProfileImagePath" that will look like

ProfileImagePath REG_EXPAND_SZ C:\Users\UserName...

Scroll through the SID's until you find the one with the screwy name, like

%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\youruserid.2

This is just an example, could be something else weird.

Just edit the Key to remove the ".2", and it will point the user back to their old profile...

Reboot and see if you're back alive again

Thanks so much for your reply. I already checked the log ins as i wondered if i was logged in as the wrong user but there was only the administrator showing with my password so i presumed i can only ever have been logging in as an administrator with a password. Do you want me to remove the password to the administrator then try all of the above?

When i checked the users it had:
Administrator
ASP.NET Machine account (Standard User)
Guest Account

Did you look on the hard drive under C:\Users to see if you account name is there? Not on the login page.

When i tried that yesterday the below is what showed up, to be honest since the day i got it the same screen always showed up and i always just put my pass in noone else has ever used the laptop so i just presumed i was always logged in as the administrator. Am wishing now it'd said my name or something so i'd know what to look for.

Administrator

Probably Administrator like you say.

Try checking the registry like I described but for Administrator, see what it shows.

Hi Sorry for the late reply I've been unwell. So i booted up the laptop today with the intention of doing all of the above only to find when i try and log in and put my password in it says:

The user profile service failed the logon, User profile cannot be loaded.

The plan was to log on and remove the password not sure what to do now i can't even get past the blue log on screen :0(
