Solved Bootmgr error when booting to DVD

Hi

I am trying to boot my Vista Home Premium PC to the install disk so I can format and reinstall the OS.

When I git a key at the "hit any key to boot to DVD" prompt I get the following messages

"Bootmgr image is corrupt the system cannot boot", or I get "the file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum"

I have used this disk before, it is the correct install disk for this machine.

I also have a Casper 8 (backup program) boot disk and with that I get "CDBoot: Couldn't find Bootmgr"

Any idea what could be happening and how to fix it?

Thanks

Daniel

If you believe that the disk is fine then your drive might have gone bad. Try the disk in another computer.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, both DVD disks work fine on two other PC's.

But you gave me somewhere to go so I am testing the HDD.

I tried to test the hard drive with Seatools and it does not even see the drive,
it is a Hitachi and even the Hitachi test program does not see it, so perhaps it's cabling
or just plain bad.

I'm running Testdisk 7.0 on the drive at the moment and even that had trouble seeing the disk
properly but eventually found it.

I tried a couple of SMART test programs and as they don't report Good or Bad they gave me
no clues.

I'll get back to you

Cheers

Daniel
