Please help with clean install: cannot configure on hardware error...

Hi all,

I have a Fujitsu Siemens laptop, Amilo Li2735, model M52228, which has performed faultlessly for the last 7 years. The HDD has now 'failed' with random corrupted files so I have installed a brand new HDD and attempted a clean re-install using the original DVD system restore discs I made when the laptop was new.

The install appears to go smoothly and goes through the usual screens: Factory Defaults restored successfully, then reboots with 'Please wait while Windows sets up your computer', followed by the (common?) error of 'Windows setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware.'

No changes have been made to the laptop since new, and the original SATA HDD was replaced by a conservative WD 500Gb SATA II drive, which I was told is backwards compatible with SATA.

I would really like to get this laptop working again, so any help would be appreciated. It's been a great piece of kit and for the low cost of a new drive it seems a waste to bin it.

In anticipation - John

Try to reinstall windows without your system restore discs. Use a clean windows installation disk.

Do you have a Vista install DVD you can use install from? If not, post post here: Vista ISO download and ask Peter (Ex_Brit) to send you the link to the versions of Vista you need, 32 or 64. Include your E-mail address mucked up, like abc at xyz DOT com then edit your post and remove it as soon as you receive the link.

The ISO Peter provides has both SP1 and SP2 applied.

Pick up the Tutorial: How to Download a Vista ISO and Create an Installation DVD or USB here:

STEP THREE
To Create Vista Installation DVD or USB Flash Drive with ISO File

During the install, when asked for the key, don't enter it. You will then be given a menu where you can chose the version you want to install.

Activate once the install is completed.
