PC Restarted Itself

Booted-up, got the desktop screen, left the room and shortly thereafter heard the restart beep. Came back in after a few, had the password screen, entered it and now I'm here. Never seen or heard of this before. Any idea what happened or anything I should do?

Thanks.

EDIT: I guess I'll do a restore if this crops up again. A few days ago Search Protocol and two other Search processes were active for quite a while after boot as well.

I've had this happen after a momentary power interruption (ac power off then on a second later).
You may not have even noticed, unless your microwave clock was blinking to alert you.
Never had an unintended restart while system was up and running though.

No clock resets so I doubt a quick power outage occurred. Got some hits on Google about the issue but those auto-restarts seem to be persistent. I'll probably do a restore if the problem arises again as I said. Thanks for replying.

I suspect that you had a blue screen and windows automatically restarted. Right click on computer and select properties. On the left hand side of the system properties windows select advanced system settings. Now under the startup and recovery section hit the settings button. Uncheck automatically restart and close the windows. Now if you have a blue screen you will be able to see it.

You can hit the power button to shutdown or reset button if you have one. First note what the bluescreen says.
